Routine care

Routine Care for your chiild

Your child should ideally be seen every six months for routine check-ups and cleanings. Maintaining recall appointments helps us to address any early lesions before they become symptomatic. Radiographs are taken to diagnose lesions (cavities) developing between the teeth. These images, along with a clinical exam by our pediatric dentists, will allow us to do a thorough diagnosis for your child.

In between recall appointments, should a problem or question arise, please call us to schedule a limited examination with our pediatric dentists.

Dental sealants

Dental Sealants

In some cases the grooves of the permanent molars are very deep, trapping food and plaque. Toothbrush bristles cannot reach down into these grooves to remove the buildup. Sealants can help protect these areas by acting as a barrier between the tooth and the plaque. A sealant is a white, resin material that is placed on the permanent molars to prevent cavities. Dental sealants play an important role in maintaining a healthy dentition.

Our pediatric dentists will evaluate your child’s molars to ensure proper timing for placement of the sealants.

Treatment Options

Keeping your child’s teeth healthy is our main goal. However, there are times when your child may develop a cavity which requires treatment. In that case, we are equipped to provide the best care and treatment options for your child. In-office treatment options include: a combination of behavior management techniques, Nitrous Oxide aka "laughing gas", sedation and general anesthesia. Some of the treatment services we provide include:

  • White composite fillings
  • Stainless Steel Crowns for the back teeth
  • White composite crowns for the front teeth
  • Pulpotomy (baby root canal)
  • Extractions
  • Space maintainers
  • Mouth guards for sports
  • Night Guards for Bruxism

For children who are very apprehensive whose treatment cannot be completed in our office we offer O.R. treatment. Before your child’s treatment begins, our pediatric dentists will discuss all treatment options with you and offer the best option for your child.

Digital Radiographs

When Your Child Needs Glasses

Radiographs help our pediatric dentists to complete a thorough examination of your child’s teeth. Digital radiographs provide the doctors with a clear image that can be magnified and rotated to show the most accurate image of your child’s teeth. The benefits of digital technology versus traditional film x-ray include: less exposure to radiation, instant viewing of the image, and the ability to show a larger image if necessary.

Our staff is trained in the proper mechanics of x-rays as well as all safety protocols for your child.

Consultations

Our doctors are specialists in pediatric dentistry. They have had rigorous training to treat your child’s dental needs. For those specific times where treatment is needed but cannot be completed in your child’s dental practice our pediatric dentists are available for a consultation. We will review the necessary treatment, present our treatment options, and answer any specific questions and concerns you may have.

Consultation appointments are available whether your current dentist is referring your child or if you are simply seeking a second opinion on your child’s dental care.
